Got some big, wild dreams? Let’s shine a light on (you &) them.
If money was no object, what would you do and how would you spend your time? Would you still be doing what you’re doing? I love this question so much. One, because it makes us realize that there is so much more to life than money and two, because it allows us to think about what our heart truly wants.
Imagine if everyone lived their life doing exactly what they wanted to do. No fears to hold us back, no financial constraints to worry about and certainly no playing small. The banker would open up the bakery, the office assistant would paint, the lawyer would pack her bags and travel the world and the physiotherapist would chase his basketball dreams.
So what really holds us back? Deep down inside what is it that prevents us from going for it?
We’re afraid of shining our light.
Imagine if you succeeded. Imagine if you woke up feeling excited about the day ahead. Imagine if you experienced that spine tingling, heart-bursting joy that ignited your soul. It’s ready for you to grab with both hands but yet somehow we convince ourselves that we’re not worthy.
By the way, you’re so worthy.
After an incredible coaching session with this lady (yes coach’s need coach’s too!), I realized that it was about time I stopped dulling my light and letting my entire self shine. I feel incredibly blessed and over the moon to call myself a coach. I get to support women to step up and lead their most vibrant life but if I’m not getting real about my own desires, how can I expect my clients to do the same?
I grew up singing and dancing and performing on stage. From musicals to talent quests, I didn’t really have anything to be scared about because I just did what I loved. I think back to those moments on stage right at the end of the performance. There was a minute of silence where it felt like the entire world stopped. The eruption of applause that followed always felt electric and it made me feel alive. Coaching gives me that similar feeling, but why does it have to stop there. Why don’t we shine to our most fullest and brightest capacity?
In case you haven’t realized this is my official declaration that I am going to get back into singing and performing and continue to do all of the things that make me feel alive.
So, what makes YOU come alive? Where are you dulling your light? You’re not doing anyone, including yourself, any favour’s by keeping those desires tucked away. I want to leave you with this beautiful quote from Marianne Williamson from her book, A Return to Love.
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
So shine on baby! Let me know in the comment’s below – have you been hiding from those big, wild dreams of yours? Allow yourself to come alive and declare what it is that lights you up.
